The story of the Marquise
The Marquise de Grollier Suite pays homage to Charlotte Eustache Sophie de Fuligny-Damas , an exceptional 18th-century woman who was an aristocrat, artist, and humanist. Married to the Marquis de Grollier, she led an elegant life at the heart of the intellectual and artistic circles of Versailles, where she developed a passion for botanical painting, alongside the greatest masters of her time.
But her destiny changed during the Revolution: her husband was guillotined, and she went into exile. In Italy, far from the court and its pomp, she pursued her art discreetly, finding in nature and creation a source of consolation and strength. Upon her return to France, she retired to Épinay-sur-Seine, where she devoted herself to painting, gardening, and philanthropic works, always guided by simplicity and generosity.
It is this understated refinement and inner strength that inspired the atmosphere of the suite. A place where calm, light, and comfort pay homage to a woman whose inner beauty equals that of art.
