Our history

XV - From one family to another

In the course of the 15th century, the powerful and feared lords of Compey, stricken by opprobrium, had to give way to the House of Savoy. Almost immediately, the castle fell into the hands of another princely family allied to the House of Savoy: the princes of Luxembourg-Martigues.

XIX - The stigma of the past

However, the revolutionary storm that swept in from France in 1792 left deep scars that could only be healed in the mid-19th century, when Château de Thorens regained its rightful charm and elegance. This exceptional heritage continued to be handed down from generation to generation.

XX - Follow the guide

In 1960, Count Jean-François de Roussy de Sales opened the château to the public, offering guided tours. He was aware that the wealth of his family's collections and the major historical interest of the Château de Thorens deserved to be known by as many people as possible.
